Stephen and Pedrero
When I first saw the Andalusian Horse Direct website I had to ask myself whether I would buy a horse in Spain over the internet? How could I be sure what I would be getting?
Although I understand that many sales are made without the buyer going to see and try the horse in Spain, I decided that I would go to see and try. Of course, it was important that I would be shown a number of horses so that the likelihood that I would find the right one for me would be increased. After speaking to the Director of Andalusian Horse Direct, Dawn Birks, and explaining my preferences and my budget, through her extensive contacts in Spain she found a number of potential horses. I was then provided with videos of each horse and had all my questions answered before I committed to anything.
My trip to Spain was then arranged and Dawn provided me with her agent in Spain who was knowledgeable, spoke fluent English and Spanish and provided a driver to collect me from the airport in Malaga to drive me around to visit the prospective horses. All this was done for a very reasonable fee. Visiting each horse was a great experience and worthwhile even if I did not buy a horse.
In the end, I selected a wonderful Lusitano x Andalusian with great movement and a fantastic temperament. This horse had only been trained in dressage for 6 to 8 months and was already doing beautiful half passes and pirouettes at the canter which proved to me that these horses are easy to train because of their kind temperament.
As I am now 72 years of age, this will probably be my last horse and my goal is to reach a high level before I am 80. Watch his space!
I cannot compliment Dawn Birks enough in all that she did to facilitate my purchase which included: finding the horses within my budget, providing the videos, providing the agent in Spain, arranging for vetting (5 stage), arranging for all the export documentation, arranging for insuring the horse while in Spain and during transport to the UK and arranging for the transport, not to mention all the advise on how to help a Spanish horse settle in to life in a very different environment in the UK.
A very satisfied customer.
